Introduction

The needs in our world are clear: clean water, food, sanitation and education. Yet decades of traditional aid, focused on external funding and welfare, have often failed to create lasting change. In many places, poverty remains entrenched; the rich are getting richer, and the poor are becoming poorer.

Foxglove takes a different approach. We invest in people, especially women, equipping them to provide for themselves, strengthen their families and transform their communities. Partnering with local organisations, we invite the poorest women into Self Help Groups (SHGs) where they gain friendship, training and access to small loans to start businesses. It’s slower work — but it builds sustainable change.

In the end, “she makes her way.”

Projects

  • Grassroots Rwanda supports the poorest rural women in southern Rwanda by helping them form self-help groups and microbusinesses.
  • Birds Nest India is working alongside pavement dwellers and families living in the slum to address basic needs, including identity papers, healthcare, and education, to support independent, self-sustaining employment.
  • Focus Cambodia identifies opportunities for young women in rural areas to access relevant education and vocational training for employment and small business start-ups.
  • Birds Nest Australia aims to collaborate with organisations that focus on sustainable housing solutions for Australian women over 55 experiencing homelessness or insecure housing.
