J175 HANDS (Help and Nurture Developing Societies)

The vision is to help and nurture developing countries by assisting communities in their efforts to improve and have a better life. The group has built a pre-school at Sidara, with the assistance of other aid organisations and a pre-school in Hera has commenced. This project has 2 buildings in total and will also be used as a training centre for pre-school teachers. Then the team went to Sidara and starting with a patch of dirt, repaired the taps on the water tank and supplied enough seeds to last for this coming season.

J639N Ahisaun Capacity Building Initiatives

Ahisaun is a Timorese foundation working in the disability sector with a mission to change perceptions around disabilities issues. Ahisaun strategies include members attending mainstream schools and universities, and also running computing courses for the broader public.
Following large scale destruction of houses in 1999 and 2006 Timor's construction industry is expanding rapidly. Mario (project manager) sees this as an opportunity for Ahisaun to set up an income generating business constructing and selling pre-fabricated concrete door jambs and window frames. These will provide an alternative to the currently used wooden frames, which are expensive as timber is scarce, and has often been logged illegally. This project will assist Ahisaun to set up the business and help generate income for the work of the foundation.
