J405 Zarechny Women Rehabilitation & Training Centre

The Women’s Recovery Center in Zarechny, Kazakhstan is a Zabota Fund initiative with the overarching aim of freeing women from the cycle of abuse and giving them the opportunity to gain new skills (including in language, information technology and various trades). The women who come into the centre have most often led very difficult lives and struggle to see how they could live a normal and balanced life. But with counseling and care, lives have been changed and many are now reintegrated into society, have new jobs, new relationships and new homes.

Staff are being trained up so that they can not only deliver a higher level of quality, but also to assume greater responsibility for the running of the centre. This will lead to the centre becoming fully run by Kazakh staff. The staff are also carrying out agricultural activities to provide food and move towards greater sustainability.
